Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Hyde ("we", "us") collects when you use the Hyde app for iPhone and this website, how it's used, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email hyde@haydenkong.com.

What stays on your iPhone

Hyde keeps your conversations, the things it remembers about you, your goals and ideas, photos and files you share, call transcripts, and your settings in the app's private storage on your device. Like other app data, this can be included in your iPhone backups, depending on your backup settings. We don't have a copy.

What goes to OpenAI, and why

Hyde's replies, voice, images and live calls are powered by OpenAI. When you use Hyde, the app sends OpenAI what it needs to respond, which can include:

• your messages, and recent conversation history for context
• photos, files and voice notes you send
• your voice during calls (calls connect directly from your iPhone to OpenAI)
• what Hyde remembers about you, your goals, your name, city and time zone
• if you've allowed it, details Hyde looks up for you, like calendar events, reminders or contacts
• web searches Hyde runs to answer you or to put together your Feed

OpenAI processes this only to provide the service to us. Under OpenAI's API data controls, it isn't used to train OpenAI's models. OpenAI keeps it for about 30 days, so Hyde can finish a reply after you close the app and so OpenAI can spot abuse, and then deletes it unless the law requires otherwise. Along with each request we send an anonymous identifier derived from your account, so OpenAI can stop misuse by one person without knowing who they are.

We don't read your conversations. The only exception would be investigating serious abuse, or helping with a problem you've asked us to look into.

What our server sees

The app talks to OpenAI through Hyde's server at hyde.haydenkong.com, which runs on Cloudflare. It checks that you're signed in, adds our OpenAI access key, and passes requests through as they happen. It doesn't store your messages, photos or voice.

To keep Hyde working and secure, Cloudflare keeps short-lived technical logs, like the time of a request, whether it succeeded, and roughly where it came from. These logs are deleted within 7 days and never include what you said.

Sign in with Apple

You sign in with your Apple Account. Apple gives us a random identifier that's unique to Hyde, which we use to keep you signed in and to limit abuse. Hyde doesn't ask Apple for your email address. If you choose to share your name, it stays in the app so Hyde knows what to call you.

Permissions

Hyde only asks for access when you use a feature that needs it, and you can change any of these in iPhone Settings.

• Microphone for calls and voice notes.
• Camera and Photos to share pictures with Hyde and save images it makes.
• Calendars and Reminders to check your schedule and add events or reminders when you ask.
• Contacts to look someone up when you ask.
• Location to help with things nearby and local news, only while you're using the app.
• Notifications for Hyde's texts and check-ins. These are scheduled on your iPhone.

Links, photos from the web, and connections

When Hyde shows you a link or a photo from a website, your iPhone loads it directly from that site, which will see your IP address like any website you visit. If you connect another service to Hyde, the requests needed to do what you ask are sent to that service, and its own privacy policy applies. You can remove a connection at any time.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent your data, or share it for advertising.
• We don't track you across other apps or websites, and Hyde has no ads.
• We don't use third-party analytics in the app.
• This website doesn't use cookies.

Deleting your data

In Hyde, go to Settings, then Delete account. This erases everything Hyde stored on your iPhone, signs you out, and removes Hyde from Sign in with Apple. Deleting the app also removes its data from your iPhone. Anything already sent to OpenAI is deleted on their schedule, after about 30 days. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple with Hyde in iPhone Settings, under your name, then Sign in with Apple.

Children

Hyde isn't meant for children under 13, or the minimum age in your country if that's higher. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has used Hyde, contact us and we'll help.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, or to object to how it's used. Because almost everything lives on your device, you can see and delete it right in the app. For anything else, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

Security and where data is processed

Everything Hyde sends travels over encrypted connections. Your sign-in is kept in the iPhone Keychain, and our OpenAI access key never leaves our server. Cloudflare and OpenAI may process data in the United States and other countries. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
